Residents and staff at West Farm marked World Book Day with colour, laughter and a lot of imagination. Costumes ranged from classic characters like Dorothy and the Queen of Hearts to a surprisingly cheerful shark. There was even a ladybird and a nun in the mix – proof that no book was off limits.
Throughout the day, residents enjoyed poetry readings, story sharing and reminiscing about their favourite childhood books. Pink feather boas, themed outfits and some spirited performances brought a sense of fun and connection to the group.
Manager Zahra Karimi said: “World Book Day is always a brilliant opportunity to spark conversation and creativity. Many of our residents have strong memories tied to reading, whether that’s bedtime stories with their children or books they loved when they were younger. Dressing up gives our staff a chance to bring those stories to life, and seeing everyone laughing and joining in makes it all worthwhile.”
One of the day’s highlights was a group poetry reading session, with residents taking turns to read aloud and reflect on the lines. The activity encouraged both conversation and confidence, and it was clear how much it meant to those taking part.
