Residents from Cramlington House enjoyed a brilliant trip to Whitehouse Farm last week! They visited the animals, enjoyed a delicious lunch and danced their socks off to the fabulous entertainment provided for their visit.
The outing was organised and hosted by Hays Days, a lovely community group that aims to bring together elderly people to take part in group-based activities that encourages interaction and socialisation with others, to reduce loneliness and isolation.
Kim Stubbs, Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “The residents thoroughly enjoyed their time at Whitehouse Farm. After seeing and chatting to the animals, they ate a delicious lunch while entertained by some great songs, both past and present. The residents sang and swayed over their meal and following it danced the afternoon away! The smiles never left their faces and that’s exactly what we want our outings to be all about – happiness, enjoyment and interaction.”
Social outings and interacting with people and animals outside of the home, and singing and dancing, are all great therapies in elderly care and have specific benefits for those living with dementia. For example, it improves mood, encourages residents to feel relaxed and calm, and it also enables them to use their social skills in a group setting. Overall, it’s amazing for their general wellbeing and we are so pleased we can provide such outings for residents.”
