At Craig Healthcare, we recognise the impact of connecting with heritage and the joy that comes from shared exploration. West Farm residents have recently embarked on an exciting project: a heritage trail that explores the rich history and culture of their local area. This initiative not only creates a sense of community but also allows residents to reminisce about the past while discovering new insights about their surroundings.
The heritage trail is part of a broader project aimed at exploring what it means to identify with Geordie culture. This week, the focus was on North Shields, a town with a vibrant history and many stories to tell. Residents shared memories of how the geography and buildings have evolved over the years, sparking lively discussions and reflections on the changes they have witnessed.
Residents reminisced about their personal experiences, telling stories that highlighted both the past and the present. This exchange of memories has not only been nostalgic but also educational, offering a wealth of knowledge about the area’s development and its cultural significance.
Zahra Karimi, our manager at West Farm, said: “This has been such a wonderful project to do with our residents. It’s wonderful to see them so engaged and enthusiastic about learning and sharing their own stories. It’s a true celebration of Geordie heritage.”
Following the focus on North Shields, the project will see residents work together to create a large collage of The Hoppings, Europe’s largest traveling funfair, which is an iconic part of Geordie culture, and something the residents are excited to work on.
