Last week, our residents had the pleasure of attending the Tina Turner Show at the Whitley Bay Playhouse – and the smiles on their faces were truly priceless. These outings are a vital part of our care philosophy, providing immense benefits to our residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing.
Our manager at West Farm, Zahra Karimi, emphasised the importance of such outings: “Our residents’ happiness and wellbeing are our top priorities. These kind of visits are essential in maintaining their overall health and quality of life. They offer a change of scenery, social interaction, and the chance to relive cherished memories.”
One of the most significant benefits of outings like these is the boost in mental and emotional health. Residents can reconnect with their past and share stories with their fellow residents, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. These experiences stimulate cognitive function and improve mood, reducing feelings of isolation. Physical health also reaps rewards because being in a new environment encourages mobility and physical activity, which is crucial for maintaining physical health and preventing muscle atrophy.
The most important aspect of the visit overall, however, was that our residents really enjoyed the show, dancing and singing along to some great classics. It was a wonderful afternoon!
