West Farm Care Centre residents enjoyed a memorable outing to Beamish Museum recently and enjoyed visiting the past and exploring local history in detail. A day at Beamish is a wonderful activity for our residents as it recreates what life was like in the North East during an era that they grew up in, bringing back fond memories.
The residents loved the whole day, engaging in lots of conversation, and reminiscing about their childhoods whilst looking at vintage household items, photographs, and traditional crafts. The warmth of a real coal fire, the texture of aged paper, and the familiar objects from bygone days sparked memories and stories, bringing shared laughter and reflection.
Our manager at West Farm, Zahra Karimi, said: “Visits to places like Beamish open doors to our residents’ pasts, bringing into their present lives stories and memories that are precious to them. It’s a joyous form of time travel that fosters a sense of connection to the past and to each other and enriches their sense of self and community. We had an amazing day.”
