Residents at Cramlington House enjoyed an exciting visit to Cramlington train station last week, where they got to see the Flying Scotsman whizz by!
The famous locomotive was travelling through our local station on its tour around the UK and it was something some residents were really keen to experience.
Residents sat waiting patiently and excitedly; chatting among themselves about the train approaching and were eager to see it travel through the station in all its steam glory!
Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “Sometimes it’s just little moments in the day that really can make the difference between a resident feeling fine and feeling fantastic. Steam locomotives were a form of transport many of our residents grew up with; and given they are few and far between now, it was an occasion that meant a great deal to those who we took along to our local station. To see the look of wonder and joy on their faces was amazing; what a lovely little trip out!”
Such events often trigger past memories and encourage residents to share stories of their younger years, and at the same time help create special new memories, which plays a really important in the care we provide to our residents.
