What a wonderful action-packed weekend we’ve had celebrating such a momentous occasion and key part of UK history!
As well as enjoying the outdoors with the fine weather, the residents have thoroughly enjoyed watching the TV coverage on the jubilee, especially the Trooping of the Colour ceremony that officially marked the birthday of the British Sovereign for over 260 years. Over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark The Queen’s official birthday.
On Sunday, residents enjoyed visits from their loved ones alongside some fabulous live entertainment from local singers Kenya and Jazz Michael who sang songs from the 1940s and 1950s, helping residents to reminisce about that specific time in their lives.
Julie McMurrough, our manager at Holywell House, said: “It’s been such a busy, amazing weekend and what better way to celebrate the renovation of our patio, along with the new furniture we’ve purchased from the money we raised at the Easter fair than with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Alongside our visitors, we’ve also spent time baking and icing biscuits and cakes, card making and watching the service live on BBC. Residents have loved every minute of our celebrations!”
