We might be on lockdown at West Farm but behind closed doors there are lots of wonderful things going on!
As we can’t take residents out to their usual social gatherings or days out and we can’t invite specialist care providers into our home either, we’ve improvised.
Each day of the week for the foreseeable future residents can take part in organised activities led by our amazing staff. This includes yoga with Alyson every Wednesday and Thursday, or Persian / English classes with our deputy manager Zahra who originally hails from Persia which are taking place every Tuesday. In these sessions, residents learn some Persian but it works both ways, with Zahra and some other residents who do not hail from Newcastle getting to grips with some common ‘Geordie’ lingo! It really is a treat to watch!
Oh, and if they fancy, residents can also enjoy some hair and beauty treatments including hair styling and getting their nails painted each week too.
Zahra said: “Our activities programme has completely been turned on its head overnight so we’ve had to think fast on our feet and put in place replacement activities that meet the physical, mental and social wellbeing needs of our residents in the same way.
“We’ve test driven our first week of these new sessions residents can take part in and they’ve really taken off! The residents have particularly enjoyed trying some yoga and getting to grips with Persian, we are so very proud of them.”
