It’s been a really tough time for all our residents during the current COVID-19 pandemic and care staff have worked around the clock, day in, day out to try and ensure they remain as positive and mentally strong as possible.
It’s been a long five months since one particular resident, Fred, has seen his loved ones and the situation is even more heart wrenching as next week Fred will be admitted to hospital for an operation but is unable to see his family before or after due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Because of this, he hasn’t quite been himself which is completely understandable so we asked him if there’s anything we could do that would help him feel less anxious and more comfortable. He would love nothing more of course to see his family but as we can’t deliver that, Fred asked us if he could enjoy a special curry – complete with fried rice and chips – from My Shanghai Oriental Buffet in North Shields so we did everything we could to make this happen!
Talking about the gesture, our Managing Director Lucy Craig said: “We pulled a few strings and were super grateful to My Shanghai for arranging a takeaway meal to be picked up especially as they don’t usually provide a takeaway service. As you can you see from the video, Fred’s reaction was priceless and, just like with all our residents, these moments remain close to my heart. He was so shocked that we delivered the exact meal he wanted and it’s really lifted his spirits at a time when positivity and hope is really needed not just from Fred, but also the rest of the residents and their amazing loved ones too. We can’t wait until this is all over as much as you can so please do remember we are always here, at the other end of the phone, to support you as well as the residents. I’m happy to chat whenever you need to.”
Please watch the videos below – it really is priceless.
