SHE DID IT! We told you a few weeks back that Yvonne was planning on completing a skydive to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society by conquering her greatest ever fear of heights.
Despite being scared of heights her whole life, Yvonne, in short, strapped herself to a professional skydiver and parachuted out of a plane at 10,000 feet to raise money for dementia care, a cause that is close to her heart both professionally and personally after losing her dad to the disease 12 years ago.
Speaking about her amazing achievement, Yvonne said: “It was absolutely brilliant. I woke up in the morning feeling really calm but I started to get butterflies when we reached the right altitude ready to jump. I was quite nervous as we worked the way towards the door to wait to jump off, I must admit! I am so over the moon that I did it though and I’ve ticked a massive thing off my bucket list because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do too. It was an amazing experience.”
Yvonne has raised £540 so far since completing the skydive and she hopes to get nearer £600 before the final donation needs to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Talking about Yvonne’s triumph, our General Manager, Loraine Brunton, said: “We couldn’t wait to see Yvonne after her skydive to congratulate her! It was absolutely amazing to conquer her lifetime fear in an incredible way. Yvonne is a big part of the team at West Farm and it’s clear how passionate she is about dementia care and the residents she looks after on a day to day basis. She’s a very valued member of staff and it was great to see her succeed in this extraordinary challenge!”
