The care team and some of the residents at West Farm have been focused on gathering as many donations as possible for the care home’s local food bank, Newcastle East Food Bank.
The team and residents, with the help of family and friends, have lovingly filled boxes full of baked beans, sanitary wear and toiletries, canned fish and meat and dried foods such as biscuits, pasta and rice which they’re lovingly dropped off last week.
Loraine Brunton, General Manager of Craig Healthcare said: “Our Deputy Manager, Zahra Karimi thought of the idea given how much we read about those living in poverty, especially young families and older members of society. The cost of living is extremely high these days with even basic food and drink supplies costing so much, no matter how savvy you shop. With the masses of delicious food and drink around at this time of year, we are also well aware of those who simply can’t afford even the most basic elements that create a nutritiously balanced meal, let alone a stupendous Christmas dinner. This is why we decided to have a collection in the run up to Christmas and donate as many boxes filled to the brim with food as much as possible!”
Residents were also involved in the collection and helped to pack the boxes too. It’s important that residents are aware of current issues and involved in their local communities as much as possible and this was a great way that they could help others in need. We hope we have made someone’s Christmas with our donations!
