We recently took part in SAFE week, a major regional safeguarding campaign that aims to raise awareness about protecting vulnerable people from abuse and harm.
In its fifth year, Safeguarding Awareness For Everyone (SAFE) week, consisted of a range of activities and events delivered across Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside to highlight the importance of safeguarding and encourage people to recognise abuse, respond to it and refer appropriately.
Staff, residents and their relatives across both homes really got involved in promoting SAFE week and we cannot thank them enough!
Safeguarding is an absolutely fundamental aspect in caring for the elderly and our utmost priority. Everything we do, and strive for, ensures the safeguarding of our residents. We take every precaution we can to ensure all employees – whether that’s a cleaner or a manager – are fully vetted and approved to work in the care sector.
West Farm organised a stand at the Oxford Centre in Longbenton, providing lots of information, advice and guidance on the role of safeguarding within elderly care, its importance and how to recognise and respond to signs of neglect or abuse. Staff spent time with members of the public, providing key information and raising great awareness of the issue especially within elderly care.
At Cramlington House, during a Friends of Cramlington House support group meeting, which is aimed to support those adjusting to life after their family member or friend has moved into the home, a specific talk around safeguarding was held to its highlight its importance and raise awareness.
Both homes also got involved in ‘Wear Purple Day’, where people are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for SAFE and hosted their own coffee morning too, with an array of purple coloured cakes, muffins and other delicious treats.
A HUGE thank you to all that took part – safeguarding is always at the top of our agenda and we wanted to get it to the top of everyone else’s during SAFE week which we managed to do rather successfully!
