Residents are so incredibly grateful and humbled to receive all the kindness and love they’re feeling each and every day, that they wanted to give something back.
During a time where they’re shut off from their visiting family and friends, their much-loved social activities and days out, our staff have been doing everything in their power to protect their physical and mental wellbeing.
From the wonders of technology ensuring they stay in daily contact with their loved ones, to ingenious ideas such as our car park concert and group FaceTime sessions with our Bassington Avenue neighbours at Cramlington House, we are making sure our residents remain as physically and mentally healthy as possible.
Janice Wilkinson, our manager at Cramlington House, said: “Although they are missing their families, residents realise things could be worse which is why they wanted to give a little back and help those in extremely vulnerable positions right now.
“My brother works at Wansbeck General Hospital and after a chat following his most recent shift, we had the idea of getting residents, as well staff, knitting to create woollen red hearts to send to the palliative care ward at a time where families can’t be together, even with their precious loved ones at the very end of their life which is truly heart-breaking.”
One knitted heart goes to the patient and the other for the family they cannot be at this sad time.
The hearts are being collected by Janice’s brother Julian on Wednesday so residents have had a busy Easter weekend ensuring all the hearts are completed. As I am sure you agree, they look absolutely fab!
