Craft making is such an important activity for our residents and we make sure we plan and prepare specific craft sessions on a regular basis.
This week residents got involved with air drying clay to make and decorate small trinket boxes. The activity requires attention to detail, and it was great to see how focused, determined and engaged residents were with the task in hand.
Our activities manager Kim Stubbs said: “Crafts is such an important part of our days here at Cramlington House. This specific activity has been so rewarding. Not only is such a task great for mental health as it encourages concentration, focus and attention to detail, it’s great physically and socially too.
“From a physical perspective, this kind of activity is great for developing and maintaining fine motor skills which are vital for leading an independent life for as long as possible. For example, we use these to do up buttons on a shirt or tie our shoelaces.
“Crafts is a good social activity too with residents engaging with one another about the task in hand and helping each other through it. The trinket boxes they created and decorated were amazing – such great work – I am so proud of them!”
