We were all hugely affected by the Covid pandemic lockdown and it was a very challenging and heartbreaking time for all of our care homes. The fear of the virus coupled with residents not being able to see their loved ones for months on end was very traumatic. However, we’ll never forget how our local community rallied around us offering to chat with residents via video calls, bake cakes and scones or whatever we fancied and provide us with any support needed throughout a long two years.
West Farm decided that we wanted to do something to show how much their support was appreciated. That’s why we organised a local community litter pick, where staff and residents and their families got involved.
Our manager at West Farm, Zari Karimi, said: “It was a lovely sunny morning, and it was great to get everyone together and help clean up our local streets and surroundings. We picked up quite a lot of litter and staff, residents and their families worked really hard to collect as much as possible and do their bit to tidy up Longbenton. The best part of it all was seeing the smiles on the faces of those who lived nearby at the job we were doing. Some people also stopped to talk to us and thank us for litter picking and helping the local area look tidier. One of our residents was even handing some sweet treats out to local people who stopped to chat and say hello. Big thanks to everyone who got involved!”
