We are SUPER excited to tell you that we have a new choir group at Cramlington House!
Residents at Cramlington House have been in fine voice following recent discussions around introducing a resident singing group that promotes the benefits of singing.
So far, eight residents have joined in and we are currently deciding on a name for our choir.
Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “Group singing improves residents’ overall wellbeing by providing huge benefits to their mental, physical, social and cognitive health.”
“It’s also lovely to see residents come together in a group setting where they’re able to enjoy a shared love of singing and create and develop new friendships and memories, which is vital in the residential and dementia care we provide here at the home.”
Establishing the choir coincides with a BBC programme about the role choirs can play in dementia care, which will explore how music and singing can bring happiness and hope to those living with dementia. Called ‘Our Dementia Choir’ it airs on Thursday May 2nd at 8pm on BBC one in a two-part series.
Kim added: “A lot of the staff will be watching the programme as it’s a topic that’s close to our hearts and minds. It’s also very fitting and will perhaps provide ideas that we can introduce to our own choir at Cramlington House. Personally, I am looking forward to watching it and can’t wait to see what it’s all about.”
If you feel like getting your creative thinking caps on and suggesting names for our newly formed choir then please do get in touch with Kim on 01670 591 930 or Activities@Cramlington-house.co.uk
