Residents at West Farm recently were treated to an afternoon of live singing from the lovely Makayla from Musical Memories.
Performing from the patio with residents safely inside, Makayla serenaded everyone with classics from the 1940s and 1950s which went down extremely well! Residents were also given a songbook at the start of the session in large print for easy reading so that they could sing along if they wanted to which of course they all did and with gusto! Some residents didn’t even have to look at the song book – they already knew the lyrics once the music had kicked in.
Speaking about the afternoon, our deputy manager Zahra Karimi said: “Before the COVID-19 lockdown, Musical Memories often visited and delivered vibrant singing sessions that are both fun and therapeutic for our residents, especially those living with dementia. It was awful when these sessions had to stop as residents get so much out of them – they’re visibly more relaxed, more interactive and happier following the activity – so we are so pleased to bring them back in a way that also complies with social distancing guidelines.”
Live performances and interactive singing sessions are an important part of our residents’ lives because of the physical and mental health benefits they bring. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
