The wonderful Musical Memories visited us last week to help residents celebrate the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
Singing a range of well-known songs from the Second World War, residents reminisced about this era, joining in and having a little dance too.
Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “It’s really important to mark historical and political occasions for residents, especially as such an event was a big memory in their lives. By inviting Musical Memories to Cramlington House to perform songs from that era, who suitably dressed for the occasion, it helped residents to recall their younger years and experiences they had. It’s also a good way of creating new memories too, which is really important in residential care, especially for those living with dementia.”
Our residents really enjoyed the performance, particularly the songs that evoked specific memories of past times, which encouraged them to chat and interact about this period of their lives. It was lovely to see smiles and laughter ring around the room and we can’t wait to see Musical Memories again for another fabulous performance!
