Margaret Borrowdale TURNS 100 with some very special guests!

Margaret Borrowdale, who’s been living at West Farm for just over a year, turned 100 recently!

We hosted a very special celebration party for the century milestone birthday, bringing an entertainer to the home who sang a range of well-loved classics and presented a happy and relaxed Margaret with a specially made cake that featured some of her favourite past and present memories. It looked absolutely fantastic and tasted delicious!

We also had a couple of surprises up our sleeves, too which made the afternoon even more exciting! When Margaret was younger, her and her husband loved to travel around the region with their daughter June in their Harley Davidson and side car. She has very fond memories of this, so we got in touch with the Harley Davidson Dealership in Gateshead and asked if we could borrow a Harley Davidson as part of Margaret’s birthday celebrations so that we could invite the Evening Chronicle too to report on and photograph the celebrations. The dealership actually brought three Harley Davidsons, and some birthday presents for Margaret too – a Harley Davidson t shirt, a bag and a keyring – which was ever so lovely of them. The Chronicle took some great photos (as shown) and wrote a lovely article which will create some very special and sincere memories for Margaret and her family. Motorbiking was something that brought her huge joy in her younger years, so she absolutely loved us doing this as it meant a lot to her.

As the icing on the cake, her daughter also presented her with a birthday card from Her Majesty The Queen, to symbolise her 100 years of life!

Born in Ouseburn, Margaret worked in a fruit and veg shop and then a grocery shop and, as well as riding, her favourite pastimes included baking cakes and pies as well as coach holidays and holidays abroad. As well as her daughter June, she also has two granddaughters, Leigh and Lynn. Margaret is also a Freeman of the City of Newcastle.

It was such a fabulous day and we think the photos say it all! Special thanks to the guys from Harley Davidson for their very kind gesture, you really made her day! And also thanks to the Evening Chronicle who helped to capture a truly special day at West Farm for all those who know, and care for, Margaret.

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY, MARGARET!!

  • "From the first day, I knew it was the place for my mum. Clean, friendly staff, lovely environment! My mum would not get the opportunity to do the activities she is experiencing if she was not in Cramlington House. It is home from home and we can visit anytime. I can't say enough of how great Cramlington House is. "

  • "This is an absolutely superb care facility. The staff say that this is the home of the residents, in which they work - and they evidence that philosophy every day. In the last months of our mother's long life, we took comfort form the fact that she was safe and secure, being well-fed and looked after. The entire care team are brilliant. "
