We’re delighted to be involved with a local community support group whose aim is to make Cramlington a dementia friendly town, to improve the lives of residents in and around the area who are living with the condition.
It’s vital that we talk candidly and openly about dementia not just about those living with the disease but the impact it has on the friends and family of the person diagnosed with dementia too. We are extremely passionate about breaking down the barriers in communicating about the disease as we know this will help people to understand dementia better and how best to care for their loved ones living with it, or even themselves.
The support group holds monthly coffee meetings, of which the first one took place this week, and we hope these meetings will provide a useful and supportive place for those people whose lives are affected by dementia; whether this is through caring for a loved one or friend with dementia or they believe a close relative is showing some signs of dementia and want more information and guidance.
Our General Manager, Loraine Brunton, said: “I am over the moon that a support group in the local area is up and running and here at Craig Healthcare we are going to do our utmost to ensure it’s a success. We hope the group provides a valuable source of support, advice, guidance for anything and everything related to dementia and living with the disease, whether you’re directly or indirectly affected by it. The coffee mornings provide a fantastic way for people to come together and talk openly about dementia, overcoming the stigma often attached to the disease and also to develop new friendships through common life experiences and situations.”
The coffee mornings are held on the first day of each month at Nando’s restaurant, which is just outside Manor Walks Shopping Centre. For more information, please do get in touch with Loraine on 01670 591 930 or drop her a line on loraine@cramlington-house.co.uk
