Our residents each have their own specific and unique care needs. Live entertainment plays a key role in their care, within a group setting but also, for some of our residents, a one-to-one session. Although many residents really do benefit from a group environment, we also have residents whose needs are better met when they’re alone and just with a carer, the singer and perhaps a family member or friend.
As such, we often organise for live singers to entertain and interact with residents within the privacy of their own bedroom. This is a great activity for residents who feel particularly anxious or overwhelmed. The singing session relaxes them and provides a safe haven for them to come out of their shell and (which is really important) interact with the singer, developing a good bond with them as they are treated to songs they’re familiar with and enjoy. So much so, by the end of the sessions, residents are joining in, laughing, smiling and having fun and that’s what it’s all about!
One singer in particular, Anita, has had such a positive impact on one of our gentleman residents, Alan, and formed a strong bond with him that she now comes to visit him in her own time and they sit and sing together and play the guitar, something which he loves as he used to play in a band in his younger days.
