Residents were treated to an extra special event to celebrate World Book Day, with a visit from children who attend Kinder Castle nursey in Tynemouth.
In a specially arranged storytelling session, children and residents came together, at both Cramlington House and West Farm Care Centre, to enjoy Alice In Wonderland followed by a Mad Hatters Tea party.
Commenting on the event, Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, excitedly explained: “What a wonderfully rewarding day! Both our residents and the visiting children really got into the spirit, with some fabulous World Book Day costumes. The children truly had a great impact – with many hitting it off with the residents very well and enjoying a good natter over some cake! Everyone enjoyed the story and the tea party after was a great success. The children really did leave an impression on our residents and they were relaxed, happy and upbeat following the session. We will definitely welcome them back again with open arms!”
16 children visited residents, with eight going to Cramlington House and eight going to West Farm. The bakes and cakes were delicious, the story fascinating, and the conversations and chatter flowed.
Rachel Campbell, Manager at Kinder Castle, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit especially chatting to the residents, introducing themselves and discussing their favourite stories. It was wonderful to see the delight on their faces and hear the laughter ring around the room. Their costumes were fantastic too.”
Thank you to everyone involved in organising the event – it definitely celebrated World Book Day in the right way!
Marion Rose, a resident at West Farm Care Centre, added: “It was a wonderful afternoon that brought back some great memories of when I was a teacher many years ago. It was lovely to chat to all of the children and I enjoyed looking at the pictures they had created in preparation for their visit. They also had lots of stories to tell including one child who told us about her dad’s smelly feet!”
