Our General Manager, Loraine, has recently become a Dementia Friends Champion, following the successful completion of training with The Alzheimer’s Society!
In her role as a Dementia Friends Champion, Loraine will be delivering a number of informative and interactive sessions within our local communities focused on dementia, living with the disease and its impact upon everyone within the family group, not just the person diagnosed.
Talking about her new venture, Loraine said: “Dementia care is a key focus for us, with many residents at Cramlington House and West Farm Care Centre living with it, and it’s very close to our hearts so it’s important that we champion it not just within Craig Healthcare but within our local communities as much as possible. I am very passionate about dementia awareness and believe we can become a truly Dementia Friendly Society if we change the way we approach care for the disease. Firstly, we need to accept that dementia happens and people will continue to be diagnosed so Craig Healthcare wants to show how people can live with dementia in a positive way, providing highly personalised, informed and innovative care through research and partnership with many fields of experts which includes providing the best physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing support to those living with dementia. I want to get the message out there that life does not stop with a diagnosis of dementia but instead it is possible to live in a positive way with this disease.”
