That glorious sunshine of late may already seem like a distant memory with the current cold winds we’re experiencing, but it was so pleasant and some of our residents managed to not only enjoy the garden but do a bit of gardening themselves, too!
Making the most of the February sunshine, those living at Cramlington House enjoyed a lovely visit to Azure Garden Centre. They looked at the wide range of plants and trees at the garden centre, had a slow stroll around in the warmth, and then enjoyed a cuppa and some cake.
While at Azure Garden Centre, residents were encouraged to share their thoughts on how the outside environment at Cramlington House, including the courtyards and gardens, should look and what plants and shrubs should be planted.
After some great conversations and their creative input, we bought some new plants that the residents were looking forward to pot and plant back home, which they were able to do due to the weeklong heatwave!
Such activity is great for mobility and maintaining fine motor skills which are essential for independence such as doing up buttons on a shirt for instance. It also boosts mental well-being too as it helps to reduce stress levels, promotes relaxation and encouraged social interaction.
We’re looking forward to similar visits, and also more gardening sessions, as the warmer months approach.
Fingers crossed for another long hot summer!
