Residents at Cramlington House enjoyed a wonderful social outing last week when they visited Concordia Leisure Centre along with carers and Mind Active, a voluntary organisation that aims to improve the lives of older people living in residential care homes.
Residents were invited to a monthly session of entertainment, fun and games at the leisure centre which is organised by the British Red Cross. During the afternoon, residents, sang, danced, enjoyed a lovely lunch and had a brilliant time.
Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “What a fabulous afternoon we had! The atmosphere was incredible, and everyone was really happy and upbeat. Laughter echoed around the room, there were lots of conversations going on and it was great to see residents grinning from ear to ear. The feeling you get from seeing residents like that – relaxed and enjoying their lives – is exactly what makes this job one of the most satisfying roles in the world.”
Social outings within the local community form an important part of the care we provide to our residents. When they move in with us, it’s vital that they remain active within the community that they’ve come to know and love.
Each outing is specifically tailored to the needs of residents and we ensure those who are included benefit greatly from such occasions. Residents from both homes participate in a wide range of local activities, where they mix with other people from the area, including those from other care homes too.
Kim added: “We would like to say a big thank you to Mind Active for inviting us to such an enjoyable afternoon. The residents fully embraced the activities and got so much out of it both physically and mentally. We’ll definitely be along to the next one!”
