Linda Gallon, one of our care consultants, and Emma Jones, who works closely with our senior management team supporting operations, attended a specialist dementia care seminar with renowned dementia champion Teepa Snow this week, an event they found truly inspiring!
American Teepa Snow is one of the world’s leading advocates and educators for anyone living with dementia, with over 30 years of clinical practice. At the seminar, she spoke passionately about the disease with a specific focus on how a positive approach to dementia care, using empathy and support, is vital.
As many of you may know, Linda Gallon was our Ops Manager before she semi-retired, where she played an instrumental role in the highly personalised care that we pride ourselves on at Craig Healthcare. The ethos of Craig Healthcare is similar to Teepa’s philosophy – we believe a person-centred approach to dementia care is the most effective way to care for those living with the disease.
Linda, who has been a great fan of Teepa’s for many years, said: “Meeting Teepa really is a dream come through and I am still in total awe after meeting her. She has incredible knowledge of dementia care and both Emma and I took away an enormous amount of advice, expertise and information that we can build into the care provision at Cramlington House and West Farm which is very exciting.”
There was no doubt why the event, organised by Hospices North East, was a sell-out seminar. Teepa was exceptional and she thoroughly deserved the standing ovation everyone gave her at the end.
