We love our coffee mornings at Cramlington House and our residents play a big part in making them happen! Some of our residents help to make the cream scones and cut cakes for the coffee morning where residents gather to enjoy a morning snack and a relaxing hot drink.
Getting involved in such activities are great for developing and maintaining those fine motor skills which we all need to live independently. For example, to use cutlery, brush our teeth and tie our shoes.
At the coffee mornings, the residents can catch up with one another, enjoy the art of conversation between themselves and with staff which is wonderful for their wellbeing especially if they’re not having a great morning and could really do with some company. Following the coffee morning, we often play some games too, which livens things up a bit and gets the mind and body moving!
Kim Stubbs, our activities manager at Cramlington House, said: “This week we played ‘what’s in the box’ with residents having to feel the object through touch without being able to see it. It was a lot trickier than it sounds but we had a great time guessing and some of the residents guessed what was inside the box first time which was fab. We love these games as they make the brain work, providing great mental exercise. We use everyday items too that residents will come across daily. It’s such a fun session, with lots of laughs ringing around the room and happy faces.”
