We totally love our chair exercises sessions! They are such a hit with residents who get so much out of them.
The sessions provide great stimulation to residents both physically and mentally. It keeps their bodies active and mobile which is very important for daily tasks such as getting dressed, walking unaided and, in a nutshell, maintaining as much independence as possible.
Kim Stubbs, our activities manager at Cramlington House, said: “We always ensure our chair exercises are as creative and invigorating as possible whilst not being too challenging for residents.
“We want to see residents walking away from the session with big smiles on their faces following a fun filled morning or afternoon of social interaction, bonding and laughter.
“We also design the sessions so that residents get moving and do some gentle physical exercise. It’s difficult to get out for a walk at the moment as the weather is so poor and cold. We don’t let this stop us from ensuring residents remain active though!
“By making the sessions game based, the activity is always a big hit with residents who gain so much not just physically but mentally, socially and emotionally too. It’s great to see how relaxed and energised residents are following a chair exercise class – they’re always keen to do it again.”
