Carnival fun at West Farm!

West Farm residents enjoyed a fun filled day of festivities recently as news came that their relatives were finally able to visit them after four long months of the COVID-19 lockdown. Given the difficult times residents have experienced in not seeing their loved ones, one of our lovely carers at West Farm, Laura White, with the help of other staff members wanted to create a whole day of fun that all residents would thoroughly enjoy.

Laura White said: “It’s just been so heartbreaking for residents not to see their families and we have been doing everything we can on a day-to-day basis to keep their spirits up but sometimes you really have to push the boat out to show residents just how much they are all loved and how staff understand just how difficult it’s been for them and their families.

“It really was a fabulous day with lots of smiles on faces and laughter ringing around the home. It was great to see the residents interact with the activities so much, relax and enjoy themselves forgetting about the current troubles we are facing.”

There were lots of activities that took place at the carnival including ‘hook a duck’, ‘coconut shy’ and even dodgem cars. There was also an ice cream and candy floss cart too and juggling jokers walking around entertaining residents as they enjoyed hot dogs and sweet treats. The residents enjoyed taking part in the various games, riding in the dodgem cars and even winning prizes too including a goldfish in what was a hugely rewarding day.

Our Managing Director Lucy Craig said: “The carnival involved a lot of painstaking preparation and Laura and the team worked so hard to ensure it was a successful day full of happiness and love.

“The day exemplifies just how amazing my staff have been through this whole heartbreaking period – choosing to spend their break times with residents who are feeling lonely due to no face-to-face family time and ensuring they’re ok.

“Every single member of the team has worked so hard throughout the pandemic and today really was extra special for all involved, especially the residents. What a wonderful day!”
