The Gentleman’s Club at Cramlington House had a very busy day last week, making bird boxes for the wide variety of birds we often see when enjoying our outdoor environment.
With the help of carers, some of our gentleman residents got involved in the design and production of several bird boxes that now take pride of place in our glorious garden!
Kim Stubbs, our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “This kind of activity provides some amazing benefits for the wellbeing of residents. Not only does such a creative and focused task help to relax them, require concentration and increase interaction, using a wide range of tools and apparatus is great for exercising fine motor skills, which are essential for maintaining independence. For example, such as using a knife and fork or doing up buttons on a shirt.”
The residents got really involved in the project and were so proud with their final creations – as we are too! It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and, as well as using hammers, holding nails, painting and helping to cut wood, residents enjoyed chatting to one another about the project, the progress of it and asking for assistance when required.
Kim added: “We’re now looking forward to welcoming some new friends during the summer, who are attracted to our fab bird boxes and the lovely treats we will have inside!”
