As part of our Dignity Day efforts, we are looking for Dignity Champions who feel passionate about dignity in care and motivated in raising awareness of the importance of dignity and why it’s a basic human right for those living in residential and dementia care.
A Dignity Champion will raise the profile of dignity at Cramlington House and West Farm and will be focused on educating everyone – from staff, relatives and visitors – about person centred care, with dignity at the heart of each care initiative and activity. They will provide a role model to others too, pledging to challenge poor care and make positive changes to provide better care where relevant.
Loraine Brunton, General Manager at Craig Healthcare, said: “We’re hoping to recruit several Dignity Champions to ensure dignity and the meaning of it is consistently highlighted and all those involved in care are continually educated and informed about the role and importance of dignity in care. It’s all about taking small steps in making sure that we, as a care provider, safeguard our residents and ensure they are treated with the utmost respect and dignity 24/7 by all members of staff and those associated with the provision of their care.”
Our Dignity Champions will be proactive in providing positive or negative feedback in terms of the care our residents receive. They will also take the time to listen and understand the views and experiences of carers, residents and their families. Speaking up about dignity for the greater good – that will raise standards of care – is vital so if this all sounds something that you, a friend, a family member or colleague might be keen to do and get involved in, please let us know!
