There has been plenty of fun in the kitchen at West Farm Care Centre as residents have been enjoying some baking days and getting creative with cookie decorating.
Baking is always a popular activity in the home, combining plenty of opportunities for residents to get involved with something practical while also enjoying the social side of spending time together.
From preparing the ingredients to decorating the finished cookies, residents were able to get involved in different stages of the activity, with everyone adding their own creative touch.
Cookie decorating is particularly good fun because there is no right or wrong way to do it. Residents can choose their own designs and decorations, creating cookies that are as individual as they are.
Activities such as baking can also bring back happy memories, with the familiar smells and processes often reminding people of baking at home, making cakes with family members or preparing treats for special occasions.
There is something particularly enjoyable about seeing a selection of freshly decorated cookies come together – although resisting the temptation to sample them can sometimes be the hardest part!
At Craig Healthcare, we aim to provide activities that reflect residents’ interests while encouraging social interaction, creativity and independence. Baking offers all three, as well as providing plenty of opportunity for conversation and laughter along the way.
Most importantly, it is about enjoying time together and having fun.
The residents at West Farm certainly put plenty of enthusiasm into their latest baking session, producing some fantastic decorated cookies in the process.
And after all that hard work, there was only one thing left to do – enjoy the results!
We’re sure it won’t be long before the baking trays are back out and the residents are ready for their next creative kitchen challenge.
