Residents at West Farm recently enjoyed an art day and what fun they had! Not only did the afternoon of painting, drawing and colouring in bring joy and self-expression, it also provided many health benefits to residents too.
For example, engaging in art activities, such as painting pictures and colouring with pens and pencils, encourages the development and maintenance of fine motor skills. The precision required to hold a brush or a pencil, the delicate strokes and careful coordination involved, all contribute to enhancing dexterity and hand-eye coordination which are vital to living a good quality of life.
Mentally, art stimulates the mind, invigorating cognitive function and memory recall. Exploring colours, shapes, and compositions encourage problem-solving and critical thinking, enhancing cognitive flexibility.
Zahra Karimi, our manager at West Farm said: “From nurturing fine motor skills and stimulating cognitive function to providing an emotional outlet and fostering social connections, art is a wonderful activity for our residents to take part in. It has amazing benefits on both their physical and emotional wellbeing and we all enjoyed a lovely creative afternoon.”
