Cramlington House residents went on a special outing to Woodhorn Colliery Museum, a place brimming with rich history and nostalgic charm. This visit not only provided an opportunity for them to reminisce about the past but also created lasting memories of a delightful day out.
Woodhorn Colliery Museum is a unique site that allows visitors to experience the life of a miner and the impact of coal mining on the local community. For our residents, many of whom grew up during the coal mining era, it was a chance to connect with their personal histories and the stories they hold dear.
The exhibits at Woodhorn Colliery Museum transported our residents back in time, evoking memories of their own experiences and those shared by family members and friends. From the authentic mining machinery to the recreated miner’s cottages, each element sparked animated conversations and smiles of recognition. Residents had the chance to handle tools, explore the underground mine, and learn about the intricacies of mining operations.
It was heartwarming to witness the camaraderie among the residents as they exchanged tales from their past and rediscovered common threads of their shared heritage.
Kim Stubbs, our activities coordinator at Cramlington House, said: “We had a wonderful day at the museum and the visit helped residents reconnect with their personal histories, fostering a sense of belonging and a renewed appreciation for their own life journeys. It was a joy to see their faces light up with memories, and I am grateful to have been a part of the day.”
