Last week, Wags and Company popped into Cramlington House with a range of gorgeous, friendly dogs to introduce to our residents and what an absolute hit they were! Lots of smiles and laughter rang around the home, creating such a positive and upbeat atmosphere.
Residents met a range of canny canines including Eric the French Bulldog. Eric in particular was much adored by many of our residents who developed a lovely bond with him and greatly appreciated his presence. They enjoyed some fab conversations with residents who stroked, cuddled and held them lovingly, and it was amazing to see the response the pooches had!
Kim Stubbs, Our Wellbeing Champion at Cramlington House, said: “Animal therapy plays a vital role in care and the benefits it provides to residents are outstanding. It encourages greater interaction, boosts wellbeing and creates a calm and loving atmosphere where new conversations develop and new memories are made. Importantly, it also reignites the past for some of our residents who owned a dog or lived with one before moving in with us. Eric and Emma really were superstars, and everyone was beaming from ear to ear with the company they provided. The response from residents was so great to see – we can’t wait to see them again soon!
Animals can often create an impact that humans can’t, and this is why the role of common pets such as dogs, cats and rabbits play a key role in the care we provide. Numerous studies show pets are capable of permanently lifting the atmosphere within care home settings which is why we value their role in care so much.
The Wags and Co team were such a huge hit, Cramlington House is now welcoming them with open and loving arms every Thursday. We’re looking forward to sharing with you some more updates and photos about the benefits and positive impact the visits have on residents.
Dogs really are a human’s best friend!
