Puppet Therapy At Cramlington House

Recently, The Puppet Show came to visit residents and staff at Cramlington House. It went down extremely well with everyone, emphasising the important role puppet therapy plays in residential and dementia care.

Puppetry is an art and bringing this into the daily lives of residents helps to stimulate their minds, and engagement with staff, the puppet performer and other residents. It focuses on social and communicative skills, with residents interacting better and becoming more sociable when the puppets were performing.

They really did make a difference to those residents involved in the session, creating a calm and relaxed environment and bringing smiles and laughter to the faces of both male and female residents. Even non-verbal residents benefited from the show, encouraging them to communicate with facial movement or sound.

As you can see from the video, it really was an amazing session for the residents who were very receptive to the puppets and the atmosphere they created.

We cannot wait for The Puppet Show to come again!
