Residents at Holywell House recently enjoyed an exercise session focused on strengthening their legs, using simple rubber bands to add a little extra resistance.
Exercise can play an important role in supporting mobility and independence, and the session provided residents with an accessible way to get their muscles moving while enjoying the activity together.
Using resistance bands can help make simple exercises more challenging while still allowing movements to be adapted to individual abilities. For the residents at Holywell House, the session offered an opportunity to work on strength and movement in a supportive environment.
The exercises were carried out at a pace that suited the group, with staff providing encouragement and support throughout.
Keeping active does not necessarily mean undertaking strenuous exercise. Gentle, regular movement can form an important part of everyday wellbeing, particularly when activities are designed around the abilities and comfort of each individual.
The session also brought a social element to exercise. Rather than being something residents had to do alone, the group could take part together, encourage one another and enjoy a few laughs along the way.
At Holywell House, activities are chosen to support different aspects of residents’ wellbeing. Physical activities sit alongside creative sessions, entertainment, social events and opportunities to get out into the local community.
The leg-strengthening session was a great example of how exercise can be made enjoyable and accessible.
For residents, maintaining movement and strength can help support confidence with everyday activities, while group exercise provides an opportunity to stay active in a friendly and encouraging environment.
There was plenty of effort from the group, and the rubber bands certainly provided an effective addition to the exercises!
Most importantly, residents enjoyed getting involved and spending time together while keeping active.
