Residents at Cramlington House recently welcomed a very special visitor when Hardy, a friendly black Labrador therapy dog from Wag & Company, paid a visit to the home.
Hardy quickly became the centre of attention as residents gathered to stroke him, chat about their own pets and enjoy spending time with the affectionate canine companion.
Animal therapy is widely recognised for its positive impact on wellbeing, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness while encouraging conversation and interaction. Hardy’s gentle nature and wagging tail certainly had the desired effect, bringing smiles to faces throughout the home.
For many residents, the visit sparked treasured memories of beloved family pets and prompted stories from years gone by. Some residents recalled walking their own dogs, while others spoke fondly about animals they had cared for throughout their lives.
The visit provided valuable opportunities for reminiscence and social engagement, while also creating moments of comfort and happiness for everyone involved.
Wag & Company volunteers and therapy dogs regularly bring companionship to older people across the region, and Hardy’s visit was warmly received by residents and staff alike.
Staff noticed how relaxed and engaged residents became during the visit, with many spending extended periods cuddling and talking to Hardy.
The home places great importance on activities that promote emotional wellbeing and meaningful connections, and visits from therapy dogs are always among the most anticipated events.
By the end of the afternoon, Hardy had made plenty of new friends and left residents looking forward to his next visit.
