Virtual Journeys: West Farm Residents Embrace 3D VR Headsets

At West Farm Care Centre, the future arrived in the form of sleek 3D virtual reality headsets, and residents were more than curious to have a go.

The initiative was part of a broader effort to bridge the digital divide and offer residents new ways to engage with the world through virtual reality therapy. From serene beach strolls to bustling city tours, the VR headsets opened doors to places many had only dreamed of. For some, it was a nostalgic trip down memory lane and for others, a thrilling first-time adventure.

Staff at West Farm were on hand to guide residents through the experience, ensuring comfort and safety while encouraging exploration. The reactions were priceless! Gasps of amazement, bursts of laughter, and even a few tears of joy. One resident said, “It felt like I was really there!”

For residents living with dementia, VR is proven to be a powerful therapeutic tool, sparking memories and stimulating conversation, evoking meaningful responses and fostering emotional connection.
