Painting is probably one of most favourite activities at both Cramlington House and West Farm!
Not only is it fantastic for maintaining those vital fine motor skills – the skills we need to do up buttons on a shirt for example or tie our shoelaces – it’s also great for our mental wellbeing too.
One key benefit is the way in which it can help our residents who are living with memory loss because of the way painting challenges the mind and promotes cognitive abilities. By being creative, they can help to uncover connections and passions about the world that would otherwise be clouded by memory loss.
Recently, residents at Camlington house enjoyed a lovely watercolour painting session and the benefits were clear to see following the activity.
Our activities manager, Kim Stubbs said: “The residents who took part in the painting session were really engaged throughout this activity, taking their time to paint and concentrate on the task at hand.
“They were visibly relaxed and content during the session which was great to see and they also enjoyed interacting with each other too about what they were painting and why.”
