Specialist in Dementia Care Opens its Doors to the North East Community

10th June 2016: Specialist care provider Craig Healthcare is opening its doors to the North East community on Friday 17th June in celebration of National Care Home Open Day.

The Open Day is about celebrating care across the UK and care providers are encouraged to invite their local communities to join in the celebration. The day provides a great opportunity for North East care homes to show people the great level of care they provide to residents. Craig Healthcare is a specialist provider in dementia care and by participating in the day, the local community will be able to go into their homes and see what kind of care they provide and how they operate, asking questions and talking to residents and staff alike.

Speaking ahead of the Open Day, Lucy Craig, Managing Director of Craig Healthcare said: “We have two care homes – West Farm Care Centre in Longbenton and Cramlington House in Cramlington. Both homes provide specialised care to those living with dementia. Our homes are quite different to normal perceptions of care home environments – for example Cramlington House, which has been purpose-built to provide dementia care, is brightly coloured and has its own onsite beauty parlour and hairdressers.”

Lucy continued: “West Farm has a specialist unit for dementia care and across both homes the wide range of activities that residents can and do take part in is extremely vital to their daily and ongoing care. Most people won’t be aware of just how many great activities both our homes provide to residents and how much enjoyment they get out of them, both mentally and physically. Activities range from visiting places of interest, trips to the local coffee shop or pub, tea dances with the Alzheimer’s Society, clubs at the local church, film shows, arts and crafts, keep fit classes, bingo, dominoes and frequent singing and dancing sessions. We want to invite families and their friends into both our homes on National Care Home Open Day to show the type of care, support and attention each and every resident receives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

On Friday June 17th, both West Farm Care Centre and Cramlington House will open to the general public, where local communities are invited to join the residents and staff at the homes to get a taste of what life is like at both the homes and get to know those who live and work within them.

A relative of a resident who currently lives at West Farm Care Centre added: “All the staff at West Farm have provided such wonderful care, compassion and support to my auntie. We both feel incredibly lucky to have found West Farm, it’s been the perfect home for my auntie. I can honestly say, hand on heart, every aspect of the care provided by each member of staff at West Farm has been outstanding.”
