If there’s one thing you might know about us it’s that you’ll know that we absolutely love celebrating special occasions like a resident’s birthday.
This is why when Ken Mears, a resident at West Farm, recently reached his 90th birthday we organised a small private celebration for him in the dining room where close family members and friends attended.
To mark nine decades of his life, the celebration for Ken included some music of Ken’s choice, a gorgeous spread of party food and, of course, delicious birthday cake!
Sarah Avery, our wellbeing champion at West Farm, said: “Every birthday a resident celebrates is special but those key milestone ages are just that little bit more exciting for residents and it’s important we embrace those who really want to celebrate their birthday and get involved in the planning and preparation of it.”
Staff decked out the dining room as well as Ken’s bedroom door and his family were invited to the tea we organised.
Sarah added: “Ken and his family had such a lovely time celebrating him reaching 90 years of age. There was a fair bit of singing and dancing going on and appreciation for Ken’s cake too.
“It’s the little personal elements of care and thought that often make the most difference and by organising a small private birthday party for Ken to enjoy, he could really celebrate his own special day with some very special people who mean the world to him. It’s so nice to be able to do this for residents and shows just how important individuality is to us.
“Thank you to everyone who got involved, you really made his day!”
Do get in touch with us if you would like to discuss any small celebrations or occasions for residents as we are very open to ideas and happy to help where we can.
