Music is playing a huge role in helping us to ensure residents remain happy and relaxed during the coronavirus lockdown period.
As well as many group sessions focused on singing, dancing and listening to music, we have also installed Amazon Echo (Alexas) devices within each unit which is enabling us to host care home wide singing sessions on an impromptu and planned basis!
Our wellbeing champion at Cramlington House, Kim Stubbs said: “Music plays such an influential role in residential and dementia care. It relaxes and uplifts spirits and also encourages residents to interact, be in touch with their emotions and engage in conversations.
“During the coronavirus lockdown, it’s playing an ever more important role to ensure residents remain mentally and emotionally healthy until we can resume our normal activities including days outs and visits from family and friends.”
As well as group singing, carers are focused on getting residents involved in music in any way possible whether this is singing along to the radio, watching specific music programmes on tv or bursting into impromptu song and dance after lunch.
Zahra Karimi, deputy manager at West Farm, added: “It’s true what they say, music really is good for the soul and we’re determined to use it to our advantage to help us overcome the current pandemic facing not just our care home but all care homes, nationwide.”
Here’s a video on just how much our residents enjoy dancing!
